South Cliff’s Vets teams were at home on a sunny but cold June afternoon. Vets 1 played Filey - South Dene and Vets 2 took on Ayton. We are approaching the halfway point in the season.

There was a good turn out of spectators who were treated to some superb bowling. The stand out rink for Vets 1 was Pauline V, Pauline T and Colin P who won 32-9. Rink 2 skipped by Tom R came back to win 19-17. Rink 3 went down 11-18. The final score was Vets 1- 62, Filey South Dene - 44 giving Vets 1 6 points to 2 - winning 2 rinks and the aggregate score. This puts Vets 1 on top of the League on the same points as Filey with a four shot difference advantage but they have played one more game than Filey.

Rinks 4,5, & 6 saw Vets 2 challenge Ayton. Here we saw rinks 5 & 6 win comfortably 24-10 & 29-13. Could Vets 2 gain a clean sweep? On rink 4 Mary, Robbie & Derek had clawed their way back to be at 14 each with one end to play. With the skips to bowl, South Cliff had a wood very close to the jack to lead by 1. With his second wood the Ayton skip took the jack and his wood into the ditch - they now had a one shot lead. The final result was 14-15 to Ayton meaning that the Vets 2 points score was 6-2 to South Cliff having won 2 rinks and an aggregate of 67-38. Vets 2 have now won 2 of the 4 games played and are in 6th place, 5 points ahead of Snainton who we play on 25th June.

The Cup/Plate matches are to be faced next Tuesday. Both teams are at home, with Vets 1 facing Seamer in the Cup and Vets 2 facing Thornton le Dale in the Plate.
