Friendly v Wingrave
South Cliff Bowling Club Scarborough
The final friendly of the season - number 6 - took place on a beautiful September afternoon. Wingrave BC, Buckinghamshire, were playing their third friendly of their tour, having played Sleights and Filey.
Six rinks of four battled it out over 18 ends. At the half-way point with the rinks being tied at 3-3 Wingrave had a significant aggregate lead - 61 shots to 42. The second half which proceeded after tea and cakes, saw South Cliff pull back. After 18 ends the rinks were tied at 3-3 but what counted was the aggregate. Unfortunately South Cliff could not prevail and lost by 3 shots - 96-93. The match was played in an excellent spirit and there were some superb woods bowled.
After the match the organiser of the tour Dave Clements thanked the 4 clubs who had made up the Wingrave party - Wingrave, Cheddington, Wing & Wendover and was very positive about the green saying it was the best they had played on, on tour. He thanked the South Cliff for their hospitality and then went on the make some presentations to his team.
Many thanks to everyone who played or supported in making this a memorable occasion on which to finish the season. We are indebted to Pauline V for organising the South Cliff teams and liaising with the touring clubs. We are looking forward to next season’s friendlies which provide an opportunity for social bowlers and regular bowlers to play in the same team.
