Four teams were to compete over 16 ends at Scalby & Newby Bowling Club. In the Cup, Filey took on South Cliff S whilst the clubs who played each other in the Vets Cup on Tuesday - Thornton Le Dale & Sleights played for the Plate.

Aussie Pairs League Chairman South Cliff’s Edwin Smith welcomed the players and spectators, hoping the weather would hold and wishing everyone a good game. Unlike the Vets Competition which was decided on aggregate, this tournament would be decided on rinks. In the Plate, Thornton Le Dale ran out comfortable winners.

However the match between South Cliff S and Filey was in the balance. After 14 of the 16 ends, South Cliff led on 1 rink but were down on the other two by 6 and 4 shots.

Heather & Tom faced some excellent bowling and their 3 shot advantage was clawed back, with the final score being 12-12. Pam & Chris gained some ground but were defeated 11-16. Filey on the third rink led by 4 shots with two to play. If John S & Pauline C could score 4 on the last end they would win the rink. They took the final end by 5 and the rink by 18-16.

The scores overall were 1-1 with a tied rink. This meant a play off of 1 end for Heather & Tom. With everyone watching they saw Filey put one on the Jack - this meant they were crowned worthy Cup winners.

Many thanks to Scalby & Newby for hosting the finals and to all the competitors for the quality of bowling.
